IP Protection Classes

"IP" (Ingress Protection) protection classes are an international standard that indicates how well electrical panels, devices, and other electronic equipment are protected from dust, water, and other foreign objects. The IP code typically consists of two digits following the "IP" letters.

The First Digit: Protection Against Solid Objects
This digit indicates how well the device is protected against solid objects like dust. The digit can range from 0 to 6:

0: No protection.
1: Protection against objects larger than 50 mm in diameter.
2: Protection against objects larger than 12.5 mm in diameter.
3: Protection against objects larger than 2.5 mm in diameter.
4: Protection against objects larger than 1 mm in diameter.
5: Protection against harmful dust accumulation. Not completely dustproof, but dust ingress will not interfere with the device's normal operation.
6: Dustproof. No dust ingress is allowed.

The Second Digit: Protection Against Liquids
This digit indicates how well the device is protected against water. The digit can range from 0 to 8:

0: No protection.
1: Protection against vertical dripping water.
2: Protection against dripping water at an angle of up to 15 degrees.
3: Protection against sprayed water. The device is protected against water sprays from any angle up to 60 degrees.
4: Protection against splashing water. The device is protected against water splashes from all directions.
5: Protection against water jets. The device is protected against low-pressure water jets from all directions.
6: Protection against strong water jets.
7: Protection against temporary immersion. The device can withstand being submerged in water for a certain period and depth.
8: Protection against continuous immersion. Suitable for use in water under specified conditions for extended periods.
